What I've Learned in English 9/10 Second Quarter
Throughout this quarter, I have learned a lot even though I haven't been here that long. One thing I've learned was how to write a proper persuasive essay and how to do projects on it. While being in the class, Ms. Priester taught me how to write correct paragraphs and essays too. I've also learned about theme, irony, and ambiguity and how to spot it in a story. Even though I'm a new student, I caught on to blogging and using online tools in English quick. Not only is this class very academically stimulating, it is also fun and interesting at the same time.

"Lamb to the Slaughter" - I'm the Detective
If I was a detective investigating the murder of Patrick Maloney in “Lamb to the Slaughter” by Roald Dahl, I would have already guessed Mary was the murderer because there was something way too fishy about her plot. One thing I would've done is investigated a little more and ask more questions. Another thing I would do is try to find out if they have been having any problems and study her actions and facial expressions. And I would at least would've known that that huge lamb leg she offered was the murderer weapon because I would think it's just not normal. I would have been a very great detective.

"Lamb to the Slaughter" Mary's Giggling
At the end of “Lamb to the Slaughter” by Roald Dahl, Mary Maloney begins giggling because she fooled the detectives by allowing them to eat the murder weapon. When Mary killed her husband by hitting his head with a lamb leg, she started plotting and scheming on how she would get away with all of it for the sake of her baby. Since she already tricked them by giving them the idea she didn't murder him, insisting on eating the lamb was a very clever move. As they ate the lamb, the detectives talk about how they think the weapon was on premises and how it could be right under their noses while Mary giggles. After the police leave the house, I predict Mary will be relieved that she didn't get caught while she cries her eyes out.
Situational Irony in My Life
Last year, I met a boy through some friends. I really didn't like him at first because he was rude and cocky so we never really got along. But we were always around each other since we hung out with the same group of friends. I remember one night I got into an argument with him because he was being abrupt just because he was with his little girlfriend. From that point on I tried my best to avoid him so I wouldn't get hurt again. A few weeks later, I texted him saying "Happy Birthday" and from there we started texting and before I knew it we were hanging out. We were together all the time, and he was one of the few I actually looked forward to seeing. He was a good friend and taught me to be open minded to everybody I meet because they could be really amazing and you wouldn't even know it.

First Persuasive Essay
I believe students should be allowed to use social networking at San Pasqual because the fact that they are one of the easiest ways to share and connect with family and friends such as Facebook. I am able to keep in touch with a lot of old friends and it is hard stay close to them if I cannot reach them online. It is not really a big risk allowing us students to use these sites since we can e-mail or call whoever we want already. If we are trusted to have cell phones here, we can be trusted to communicate through social netorks.

I created this project using Zimmer Twins. You can create your own project by following this link: Zimmer Twins. My friends will like my project because it teaches you about Thanksgiving and I think it's pretty funny. Ms. Priester will like my project because I used what I've learned in class. I do not recommend we use this tool in class because you can't post the video on your blog and it doesn't have a lot of options.

"The Bass, the River, and Sheila Mant" and "Catch the Moon" Theme Comparison Essay
Have you ever changed yourself for somebody? Both boys from these stories went through obstacles trying to get their dream girl’s attention. “The Bass, the River, and Sheila Mant” and “Catch the Moon” both have similar themes because it portrays choosing between what is more important in life or love.
In this story, the narrator falls head over heels for this girl who’s three years older than him. He finds himself secretly spying on her and soon learns all her moods. When he finally works up the nerve to ask her out, he finds himself choosing her over the biggest bass he’s ever caught and she wasn’t even everything he expected her to be. He then realizes there will be other girls and fish later on in life. The story tells you that people change for others or leave what they care about the most to impress other people.
In “Catch the Moon”, the main character, Luis, works with his father at their junkyard after being released for breaking and entering. His mother had died of cancer sometime back. When the most beautiful girl he’s ever seen walks into the junkyard looking for a lost hubcap, she reminds him of his mom since her family owned the funeral home she was buried at. When he goes to the funeral home to reminisce, he finds the girl, Naomi, watching him. Wanting to impress her, he goes to the junkyard, washing hubcaps to find her match. I believe Luis changes when he realizes letting out all the grief he had on his shoulders helps him do something good for other people. The theme of this story is giving and receiving love can change a person.
Changing who you are for somebody you like can be both good or bad. For example, how the narrator from “The Bass, the River, and Sheila Mant” gave up something he would remember his whole life just to impress Sheila. That’s never something a person should do because in the end, you’ll most likely end up unhappy or regretful. Or changing can be for the better, like in Luis’s case, in which he changed the way he saw love to get with Naomi. In the end, it’s always important to choose what you think is best for you and never give up being yourself.

"Catch the Moon" Grief Paragraph
The change Luis experiences after he addresses after he grieves of his mother's death is believable. For example, Luis wanted to help Naomi with finding her a hubcap. In real life, people deal with grief by helping those in need. By dealing with grief people are able to move on and live their life without resentment.

SPA Movie and Game Days Paragraph
Last Friday, the students of San Pasqual Academy got to watch a movie and play in a sports tournament. I was suprised beacuse I was expecting a typical day of learning and class work, but instead school was a little more laid back. The movie I got to see was Freedom Writers, which never gets old. After, the whole campus went into the gym where basketball and volleyball games were being held. I didn't play myself because I'm not that big on sports but I enjoyed watching it. For lunch, there was a barbeque in the cafe which was declious and then school was over. Overall, the day was pretty good and I hope we have another day just like it soon.

Homeroom Reform Essay Final Draft
“Can someone please help me?” Sarah asks, but the teachers are too busy to notice that she is having trouble. In most classes my school has a T.A., which I think is a very helpful aspect to most of their learning. San Pasqual Academy, is a great High School, but their aren’t enough teachers per class to help each student as needed. San Pasqual is a group home for kids that have been mistreated throughout their life.San Pasqual has over 135 students, and not every teacher can be available for all of their needs. San Pasqual’s students deserve to have an education that they can use throughout their lifetime. San Pasqual has very intelligent students, but not all get the help that they need.
UROK is a class, that helps with the students education. UROK will spend the money to buy new computers for reading, and to buy Cd's so that the students will be able to listen to the story. This class needs funding because most students are visual or listening learner’s, which means that they need to hear or see what they are learning about. I know that the teachers will spend the money for the benefit of the kids more than themselves.
Funding UROK will help me by increasing my learning abilities, and my ways of focusing. This will help me by motivating me to improve my grades, and reaching my goals of going to college. This prize will also help me by getting the supplies and attention that I need to succeed. If UROK were to get the money, the students will be very thankful and appreciative to the donors.
If my school received the money, the students and staff should all write thank you letters to show how much we appreciate the supplies.I have helped by requesting new supplies and books to improve the students learning. I have also helped by proving, that I am capable of maintaining my grades, and by using good listening skills. We could really use the money to increase our learning abilities.
If we receive the money, we will be overjoyed and you will see the impact it has on us because of our grades. This project will reflect on our lives and the way we live for our education. Another way the project will help the us, is because it will show the students how important their education is to them and their family. This project will help not only the students, but the staff as well.
We need the money because education is the most important thing in our lives.
My school should earn the money for more help with their work, attention in class, their motivation to continue and not give up, and for more supplies for school. I believe that San Pasqual Academy deserves to win this project and prize for our school, because it will help us out more than anything.
